A friendly neighbourhood pizza restaurant in Melbourne was named among the best pizzerias around the globe at the 50 Top Pizza World awards. Taking place earlier this week in Naples, these internationally recognised awards looked at over 1000 pizza restaurants from around the world, and judged the best spots through a mystery shopper process. They decided that SHOP225 from Pascoe Vale was among the best, ranking it in 28th place. It was also the highest Australian pizza restaurant on the list.

This beloved pizza restaurant has steadily been gaining accolades and fans over the years, including ranking in the top 5 pizza spots in the Asia-Pacific region this year. It’s also accredited by Coeliac Australia, and is able to cater to any dietary requirement.
In the 50 Top Pizza World list, Shop225 was praised for its inviting décor and its attentive and friendly service. As for the food, the Zio Pino pizza received a shout-out, and the pizza overall was recognised for its high-quality ingredients and attention to the dough. The venue was noted for having a vegan menu and gluten-free menu available, as well as affordable prices and a good selection of drinks.
“To be recognised on such an international platform not only shines a light on our hard work and passion but also on the quality of pizza being created here in Melbourne,” said owner Lorenz Tron.
In the 50 Top Pizza World awards, 37 countries featured in the ranking. Italy led the way with 41 venues, followed by the USA with 16 and Brazil with 6. The most represented cities on the list were Naples and São Paulo with five venues each, followed by New York, Milan and Caserta with four. As for Australia, only one other venue made it to the list, with Melbourne’s 48h Pizza E Gnocchi Bar coming in 93rd place. See the full list here.
