Wine and dine 139 metres off the ground at the upcoming Southbank destination, Sky Bar Melbourne. Situated on the 40th floor, this sky-high venue features a 5-star restaurant, two VIP function areas with private bars, a luxurious cocktail and drinks lounge and a floating alfresco terrace. Enjoy refreshing cocktails and romantic views above the clouds when this elevated venue opens on Thursday June 30.
Sky Bar Melbourne
Step into a private elevator from Southbank’s Oakwood Premier Melbourne, and soar to the 40th floor. You will be welcomed to Sky Bar with dazzling projections that will glimmer across the floor and the mirrored walls. This immersive artwork will show 16 loop videos of Melbourne from the view of a bird, reminding you of just how high you are.
“Our vision for this venue has been to show off our amazing city in all its glory — from the spectacular city skyline to showcasing local artists, foods, wines, beers and distilleries,” said Norman Khan, Managing Director of Yarra Hotel Group and Hospmen.
To the left of the foyer is the main Sky Bar Lounge, which hosts up to 70 people. It features a 16-metre stone bar, 7-metre tall glass windows and an alfresco terrace for warmer nights. Enjoy sweeping views of the city skyline, while enjoying appetisers, seasonal cocktails, wines and locally crafted beers.
Above, you’ll find Level 41, an exclusive dining space that will support special occasions, private functions and VIPs.
And to the right of the foyer, you’ll find Strato, a 5-star restaurant with breath-taking views of Port Phillip Bay.
Strato restaurant
This romantically modern restaurant seats 60 guests, and features its own bar, a main dining area, and five separate concave booths for something a little more private. Expect plenty of Victorian ingrediants and Australian produce.
The menu will take you on a journey, with its concept based on five elements: the atmosphere (air), the hydrosphere (water), the cryosphere (ice and permafrost), the lithosphere (earth’s upper rocky later) and the biosphere (living things). Through the use of creative cooking techniques, the ordinary will be transformed into the extraordinary. Expect a bit of theatre with your meal, such as smoke, vapour, embers, levitation and nitrogen.
The seasonal menu will change four times a year, and include dishes like grain-fed beef tartare, crispy skin baby barramundi, salt and pepper macaroon with scampi caviar and venison black pudding croquettes.
To complement the food, Charlie Ainsbury and his team from Proof and Co. have created a drinks menu that will blur the lines between old and new world luxury. Think classics like Negroni, and refreshing spins, like Lychee Martini finished with rosewater mist. On top of the cocktails, Strato and the rest of Sky Bar Melbourne will feature a wide range of beers, wines and rare spirits.
“One of the things we’re most excited about here is our collection of rare and old bottlings,” said Ainsbury. “Over time, well-loved spirits have become discontinued and distilleries might have shut up shop or changed the recipe. We’re in the process of sourcing these rare bottlings to feature on our spirits menu at Sky Bar Melbourne.”
Meanwhile, enjoy Boozy Brunch on the weekends from 10am to 2pm. Sip on mimosas and breakfast favourites, or try a classic high tea, with homemade scones, petit fours, and champagne above the clouds.
