So Soirée
The south side of Melbourne is coming to life with this celebration of the performing arts. Grattan Gardens will be transformed into a dynamic wonderland filled with artists and revellers. Known as the So Soiree Fringe Garden, this space will be filled with blooming spring flowers and twinkling lights. Entry into the gardens is free after 5pm, and you can kick off the night with a cheeky drink from the vintage caravan cocktail bar.
Then, head inside the Ukiyo Tent to catch a show. There will be performances on Thursdays to Sundays, from October 12 to 22. Expect drag performances, circus acts, music, cabaret and more. Headliners include Karen From Finance, Briefs Factory, Hot Department, Rouge and Granny Bingo.
Beyond the garden, explore the buzzing streets nearby and check out their restaurants, wine bars and shops.
“We’re delivering our biggest and best So Soirée Fringe Festival so far with award-winning attractions, driving visitors to Prahran and supporting our local businesses,” said City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Jami Klisaris.
Meanwhile, Prahran Square will kick off the festival with the Circus and Street Arts Spectacular. In this family-friendly event, you’ll see some of Australia’s best circus firemen and buskers in action. Watch them for free from 11am to 4pm on Saturday October 7 and Sunday October 8.
Prahran Square will also host Speed: The Movie, The Play. In this hilarious homage to the 1994 movie Speed, you’ll home aboard a vintage bus and laugh your way through a one-hour experience. This show is on from October 10 to 22.
Head to the NICA Circus Hub on Green Street for more entertainment, including high flying aerials, acrobatics, dance and roller skating.
