Comedy trio Sooshi Mango are taking their love of old-school Italian culture from the stage to the streets, opening Sangaweech on Lygon Street. The new venture brings their trademark nostalgia and humour to Melbourne’s Italian precinct, serving up loaded sangas with tradition and plenty of heart that made them household names.
18 months on from the trio’s runaway hospitality debut, Johnny, Vince & Sam’s Ristorante, brothers Joe and Carlo Salanitri and their lifelong mate Andrew Manfre are proving their restaurant success was more than a one-off skit.
The next act by the kings of ethnic mum comedy expands their food empire into a late-night, hole-in-the-wall shop designed to revie the soul of Melbourne’s most famous Italian strip—one mortadella-laden sandwich at a time.

More on Sangaweech
In true Italian style, the shop’s trading hours stretch well into the night—open from 11am daily and until 1am on weekends—inviting late-night diners to pull up a chair under the Carlton breeze and enjoy a proper sanga. In fact, the boys even promise outdoor seating fit for people-watching, espresso-sipping and friendly debate about who makes the best sauce.
When doors open on February 28, fans can expect a warm (if slightly threatening) welcome from Sooshi Mango’s legendary quirky characters—Angela, Giuseppina and Carmela—armed with wooden spoons and probably a few sharp words for anyone who doesn’t eat.
