Midsumma Festival is the beating heart of summertime in Melbourne every year and 2026 is shaping up to be no different. This year, the LGBTQIA+ arts and culture festival has a packed program with over 200 events spanning cabaret, theatre, music, parties and more! Alongside the packed line-up, Spiegel Haus is bringing a vibrant space to the festival as the official artist bar for Midsumma 2026!
When does Midsumma kick off?
As always, the festival is a big celebration of the Victorian queer community, and kicks off with the Midsumma Carnival in Alexandra Gardens on January 18, before concluding with Victoria’s Pride Street Party throughout Fitzroy on February 8. Between those two events, there is an event for everyone, whether you’re interested in catching a show, hearing live music or hitting up a party.

What is happening at Spiegel Haus during Midsumma?
This year, Spiegel Haus is the official artist bar, meaning there are discounted offers for all cast, crew and volunteers! The bar is also open to the public, so anyone who pops by can get their hands on some specially curated drink specials – making it the perfect spot to wind down after a show or to gear up for a big night out. This vibrant and inclusive space is for everyone and its location in the heart of the action makes it an ideal spot to gather with friends.
Will there be any shows at Spiegel Haus?
In addition to the artist bar, there are also some Spiegel Haus-exclusive shows and performances that you’ll want to include in your Midsumma plans. From January 23 to February 7, cabaret and comedy combine in a cocktail hour hosted by Tina Del Twist at Rooftop Piano Bar. The shows take place every Friday and Saturday night from 8pm and while you’ll need to RSVP, it is free to attend. There is also the X-rated and very bold Late Night Vice, from the same creators of Blanc de Blanc Encore – rated R18+, this is strictly for adults only, running a few times a week between January 15 and February 1. Finally, for one night only, don’t miss out on Freak Out! The Afterparty, a nostalgia-drenched tribute to the ‘90s. This late night dance party combines circus, burlesque, cabaret and live acts on February 7 at 10pm.

Do I need to book a spot at the bar in advance?
Entry to the bar is free for everyone, with no requirement to book a seat – in fact, everyone is encouraged to attend with the bar designed to be a fun-filled inclusive space for all. If you are working, performing or volunteering with Midsumma, just make sure you bring proof so you can take advantage of the discounted drink offers!
