You’ve tried virtual reality. You’ve tried going to the theatre. But, have you experienced them both at the same time? Enter The Door In Question, Australia’s first-ever virtual reality immersive theatre experience. During the show, you’ll explore what it’s like to live with schizophrenia and play with the lines between delusion and truth. The Door In Question will play at The MC Showroom in Prahran from November 5 to 9.
The Door In Question
Presented by the Stargazed Art Collective, this immersive theatre experience was developed in consultation with clinical psychologists. Troy Rainbow developed this show based on written notes from his mother, who connected to her world through birthday cards and children’s stories.
“As disconnected as these tales were, I found solace in these interactions,” said Rainbow. “I vowed one day to illustrate them and now years later I’m illustrating her life.”
Go on a journey and step into the seemingly tranquil suburban lives of “Mummy”, “Hottee” and “Little Boy”.
Tickets to this show are extremely limited, as there are only four participants per show. Each audience member is meant to experience the show in isolation, entering and exiting at different times. Each participant enters with a different world perspective. Group bookings are highly recommended, as you’re encouraged to discuss your experience with other audience members when the show is over.
During The Door In Question, you’re never sure if you’re fully in control, witnessing reality, or watching the delusions of the other characters.
This surreal show gives you the experience of psychosis through the use of XR technology, virtual reality, interactive AI and immersive theatre. The Door In Question aims to tackle and destigmatise the taboos of living with mental illness.
