There’s just something really special about browsing through markets and discovering something new. And if you’re looking for a market with a whimsical vibe, why don’t you escape to the Dandenong Ranges, and explore The Lost Woods Market? Taking place on the second Saturday of each month, this enchanting event is nestled underneath the towering trees of Emerald, creating a magical forest getaway. Located in the Puffing Billy Park, you can browse through over 170 stalls, and wave excitedly as the heritage train chugs by. This market is so popular, that you will need a free ticket to enter. Tickets are released the Thursday before each event at 9am. The next market will take place on Saturday, June 13, from 9am to 2pm, and tickets will be released on Thursday, June 11.

The Lost Woods Market
Feel like you’ve stumbled across a hidden village in the forest as you weave your way around the stalls of The Lost Woods Market. You’ll find a curated selection of items from makers and creators around Victoria, including fashion, jewellery, ceramics, art, candles, pantry items, pet products and more! When you’re not finding a little present for yourself, or a gift for a loved one, treat yourself to some delicious food and drink, such as scones, spring rolls, pizza, bao and coffee.
As you explore the market, you’ll listen to the sounds of live music, and the cheerful sounds of Puffing Billy. Feel like a kid again as you watch the train roll by on its way to and from Lakeside Station. This market is located right next to the historic Emerald Station, the highest station on the railway line with an altitude of 318.5 metres.

This market is suitable for all ages, with face painting available. The market is also directly across the Puffing Billy Playground, so the little ones can let out some energy. Dogs are welcome to come along too, as long as they’re on a lead.
This market will proceed rain, hail or shine, and since it’s set in the forest, it’s best to be prepared. Bring along an umbrella, wear a raincoat or put on some trusty gumboots.
Getting there
Your journey begins before you even arrive at the market. With parking unavailable at the location itself, there is a free shuttle bus service from Emerald Secondary College that will drive you there and back again.
Unfortunately, dogs and prams are not permitted on the shuttle bus, so you will need to park and walk to the market. Approved parking locations include Pepi’s Land Car Park, Worrell Reserve and Nobelius Heritage Park. Parking for disabled visitors is available at the RSL next to the market.
If you feel like a nostalgic trip on Puffing Billy, Lakeside Station is just a six minute drive down the road. From Lakeside Station, you can go on a return ride to Gembrook. Or, stay in the area and take a stroll around the pleasant Emerald Lake Park.
