Enjoy blissful days by the Ornamental Lake in Royal Botanic Gardens when The Terrace reopens its doors. Best known for its scones served with jam and fresh cream, this venue is being transformed by Darling Group, the same team behind Top Paddock, Higher Ground and The Kettle Black. The reimagined space will be split into two spaces, with nods to Romanticism and botanical references. One part will be a functions venue, and the second will be an all-day café. The Terrace will reopen on Saturday December 17.
The Terrace
Enjoy stunning views of the lake, the gardens and the city skyline at The Terrace. Darling Group Executive Chef Ash Hicks, Group Head Chef Chris Mitchell and The Terrace’s new Head Chef Dumendra Gampola have created a menu that champions seasonal produce for both the café and event space. Expect high quality ingredients, modern Australian cooking techniques, approachable dishes and an impressive drinks list.
Terrace Café
The iconic kiosk has been transformed into a conservatory-style café, with indoor and outdoor seating for up to 234 people. Stay comfy indoors, or enjoy a spritz under umbrellas outside.
For breakfast, expect a light menu with delicious items like avocado tartine, chilli-scrambled eggs on house-baked ciabatta, Turkish-style eggs on a bed of tahini yoghurt and roasted chorizo with Aleppo pepper dressing, and of course, the Darling Group’s signature blueberry and ricotta hotcakes.
Choices for lunch include a botanic greens bowl, a Mediterranean ‘chop’ salad, a signature Terrace fattoush salad with sumac dressing, toasted pita and fragrant herbs. For something a bit heavier, try the cheeseburger & fries with the lot.
The café will also feature freshly prepared baguettes, pastries, homemade scones and a selection of hot and cold drinks. These items will be available to-go, so you can nestle in and enjoy the lush surroundings of the gardens.
If you fancy a picnic, opt for a Terrace-To-Go box. This includes a sandwich or salad, juice, and a choice of a sweet treat. All you need to do is bring your own picnic blanket.
Coffee carts will also operate at Gate A and Gate D, so you can sip a hot brew on your way to work.
Events space
The events space takes inspiration from the surrounding greenery. Ideal for weddings, parties, conferences, product launches and private functions, it can fit up to 150 seated guests or 300 for standing cocktail service. Inside, you’ll find a 10-metre marble bar, and a central skylight for dancing under the stars. The space can be rearranged for different function types and sizes, with a selection of menu packages for seated service.
