Take a step back in time and wander around Spotswood Pumping Station. In this adults-only walking tour, you’ll explore the shadowy nooks and crannies of this heritage-listed building. Listen to your expert guides, as they tell you scary, tragic and inspiring tales from the past. After a sold-out program in June, Torchlight Tales is coming back every Friday this August.
Head to Scienceworks and prepare yourself for this after-dark experience. On this spine-tingling walking tour, you’ll learn all about the station and its history. Built in the 1890s as a key part of the Melbourne Sewerage Scheme, this pumping station played a crucial role in overcoming early sanitation problems in Melbourne.
See the remnants of a bygone era, and learn all about the lives of the people who transformed “Smellbourne” into the city that we know and love today. While this isn’t a ghost tour, there will be some chilling stories of tragedy. Armed with a torchlight, you’ll admire the historic architecture, and the engineering feat of the station.
Remember to dress warmly, and appropriately for the weather, as some parts of the tour will take place outside. The experience lasts for one hour, and you’re welcome to arrive early to grab a drink from the bar.
After the tour, stick around Scienceworks and catch a film at Planetarium Nights. Remember to book ahead, and check session times to avoid any overlap.
