For over 20 years, Transit Rooftop Bar in Fed Square has welcomed guests to go up, enjoy a drink and take in views across the Yarra. And now, it’s getting a multi-million dollar redevelopment. The project will completely reimagine the space, adding two new bars and opening up the views. This marks the first stage of a broader redevelopment to the precinct, with updates to Transport Public Bar and Taxi Kitchen to follow. Transit Rooftop Bar is currently closed, and is expected to reopen this spring.

Transit Rooftop Bar redevelopment
The renovated Transit Rooftop Bar will return as an all-day and late-night bar and restaurant. Designed by Melbourne-based Studio Y, the transformed space will welcome guests in every season, and maximise the city views.
The design will take its cues from the movement and energy of the city below, transforming the venue into a space that feels alive after dark. Think dark timber, deep reds, a faceted mirror, metallic surfaces and considered lighting.
Look forward to a new menu from Executive Chef and General Manager Tony Twitchett, with elevated, unfussy snacks as well as heartier shared dishes. As for the drinks, internationally acclaimed bartender Matt Linklater has collaborated on the cocktails. Find reimagined classics, like a Peach Colada or a Transit Espresso Martini, as well as more theatrical concoctions, with smoke, frozen glassware and garnishes.

While you’re there, listen to tunes from the new custom-designed Martin Audio sound system. Look forward to a vibrant music program delivered by WAT artists. Expect plenty of vinyl, as well as a roster of DJs to take you through the night.
“This renovation is about building a venue that lives up to its unique setting,” said Twitchett. “We’ve taken the time to get it right, and the collaborators we’ve brought in reflect our bold ambition. We can’t wait to welcome people back to Transit this spring.”
Transport Public Bar (on the ground floor) and Taxi Kitchen (Level 1) will stay open during the rooftop transformation.
