The popular Firefly Zipline is zooming back to the Yarra River this December. After exciting thrill-seekers around the city last year, this epic pop-up experience is coming back for another round. In this 130-metre adventure, you’ll fly all the way from Fed Square to Alexandra Gardens, taking in gorgeous views along the way. This year, they’re adding to the fun with a brand new Quick Jump experience. This zipline is returning to the Yarra River for a limited time, from Friday December 16 to Saturday January 28.
Firefly Zipline over the Yarra River
This is Australia’s only zipline that takes you over a major river. After a sell-out season last year, this pop-up experience is coming back for another summer of adventure.
As if the experience wasn’t enough, their dual zipline means you can enjoy this experience with a friend by your side. Reach speeds of up to 35 km per hour, and enjoy views of iconic Melbourne destinations, like the MCG and Arts Centre.
Get your adrenaline pumping with their brand-new Quick Jump experience. Learn what free falling feels like, without having to jump from a plane, by plunging from a 10-metre-high platform. All while safely harnessed of course.
“The Firefly Zipline was one of the highlights of Melbourne’s summer last year, and we are delighted to welcome back this fantastic crowd-pleaser,” said Lord Mayor Sally Capp. “Thousands took the exhilarating trip over the Yarra, enjoying the unparalleled views and adrenaline rush that only the zipline can offer.”
What you need to know:
Allow 60 minutes for the zipline and Quick Jump, 45 minutes for the zipline only and 30 minutes for the Quick Jump only. This time covers checking-in for the safety briefing, getting harnessed up, and then walking back over the bridge after your experience.
There are small lockers available to rent on-site, which can safely store handbags, wallets and keys. Otherwise, it might be best to bring someone along to hold your things.
If you’d like to film the experience, there are wrist straps available to purchase. These wrist straps will keep your phone secure while you zoom over the river. You can also bring your own Go-Pro if you have a secure wrist strap to go with it.
Flyers under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by a paying adult, or two supervising adults to wait at the take-off and landing platforms. Meanwhile, flyers under 18 will need their guardian to sign a waiver on their behalf.
Firefly Zipline will open daily during the season, with the exception of Christmas Day. It will run from 10am to 8:30pm.
