Dive into the history of videogames in the new playable exhibition, Game Worlds, at ACMI. This exciting exhibition will put you inside the worlds of 30 videogames, and 20 of them will be playable. Explore pioneering games from the 1970s and continue on to beloved modern titles. Expect original concept art, rare objects, playable demos and more. Game Worlds will open on September 18, and stay in town until February 8 in 2026.
Game Worlds at ACMI
This exhibition was curated and built by ACMI, allowing you to play games in ways that you can’t at home. Play some groundbreaking games from the past, compete against a world record-breaking speedrun and more. Witness some never-before-seen designs from games like World of Warcraft, The Sims and Neopets. You’ll also get a glimpse of the future with some anticipated Australian new releases.
Aussie creators are also welcome to submit their ideas for the ACMI Microgames Commission. Up to $10,000 will be available for teams or individuals to create browser-based microgames, which will playable at ACMI for the duration of the Game Worlds exhibition. Applications for this are now open, and close on May 5.
Throughout the exhibition, there will also be fun events, such as community nights, talks, film screenings, family activities, exclusive industry events and more.
Tickets for this exhibition will go on sale in July.
