We love hanging out with alpacas! And if you’re looking for something unique to do, there’s a very fun and silly experience where you can paint live alpacas. In this paint and sip session, you’ll see actual alpacas, chilling out and waiting for you to capture their essence on canvas. It will take place in Bendigo for one night only, as part of the Australian Alpaca National Show.
Alpaca Paint Night
If you feel like becoming an alpaca artist, head to the Bendigo Showgrounds on Friday, August 7. Head to the show ring, where you’ll find wine, nibbles and all of the painting supplies you need to complete your masterpiece. You don’t need any experience, just bring along your love for alpacas! This paint night costs $80 per person.
Australian Alpaca National Show
For even more alpacas, stick around and explore the rest of the Australian Alpaca Show. Running at Bendigo Showgrounds from August 7 to 9, the best alpacas from around the country will be strutting their stuff in the ring. Look out for over 300 fluffy alpacas, then browse around for handcrafted alpaca products, such as alpaca fleece socks, blankets and scarves.
Their soft fleece comes in 22 naturally occurring colours, ranging from white to black, with a range of browns and greys in between. It’s one of the world’s most sought-after natural fibres, thanks to their durability and sustainability.
“We’re celebrating the huge contribution alpacas make to sustainable agricultural and premium fibre production in Australia, with our fleece and industry expertise consistently in high demand around the world,” said Mark Gumbley, Australian Alpaca Association President. “We are proud to have the second highest population of alpacas in the Southern Hemisphere, behind Peru, with more than 160,000 calling Australia home.”
When you’re not admiring the fleece products, check out some locally made artisanal crafts and homewares available for purchase. There will also be an alpaca-themed Art and Photography Show.
While you need to pay for the Paint Night, the alpaca show itself is free to attend.
