Scottish craft brewery, BrewDog, is opening a unique bar inside the historic E Division building of Pentridge Prison. This will be Melbourne’s first BrewDog bar experience, and it’s set to become a go-do destination for craft beer lovers around the city. This $3 million project will feature a two levels, a sprawling beer garden, a container bar and more. BrewDog Pentridge is now open.

After opening a taproom and brewery in Brisbane in 2019, the Scottish craft beer giants have come to Melbourne. They’ve teamed up with Australian Venue Co to make this Australian expansion possible. This hospitality team is responsible for plenty of iconic locations around Melbourne, including Yarra Botanica, Fargo and Co and State of Grace.
The 12,000 square foot bar has something for everyone. The restored interiors offer a nod to the historic prison, with an indoor dining room and quiet den space on the ground floor. Head up to the next level for three cool event spaces. Meanwhile, the outdoor beer garden offers a casual and relaxed space, with a container bar, bookable spaces and games area.
The 500 capacity venue has 20 different craft beers on tap, from session-strength pale ales and lagers to imperial stouts and sours, including the ‘BrewDog & Friends’ range of guest local breweries.
As for food, enjoy a menu that will satisfy every taste bud. 50 per cent of the menu is made up of plant-based items, so that everyone can join in on the fun. There will be weekly highlights, including signature specials all year round, 2-4-1 Vegan Mondays and All You Can Eat Wings for $25 on Wing Wednesdays.
“Melburnians are ready for their first BrewDog,” said Paul Waterson, Australian Venue Co CEO. “It’s going to be an unmissable craft beer destination, arriving just in time for a busy Melbourne summer.”
A second BrewDog site will open in Sydney’s South Eveleigh precinct this summer.
