Brunetti Classico is a Melbourne institution, and if you’re obsessed with their assortment of Italian delights, you’ll be happy to know that they’ve launched a couple of new venues around Melbourne. Brunetti Classico has opened a new café in Moonee Ponds, as well as a small boutique just moments away from their flagship store in Carlton. Both places are now open and ready for you to enjoy.
Brunetti Classico – Moonee Ponds
You’ll find the café on the ground floor of Penny Lane. Close to the upcoming Palace Penny Lane Cinema, you’ll be able to replicate the “movie and dessert” tradition of the original Carlton venue. The 345 square metre space can seat over 130 customers, and offer up treats from early in the morning to late at night. Indulge in Italian-style coffee, local and imported beers on tap and plenty of artisanal cakes and gelato.
“Brunetti Classico, Moonee Ponds will be a licensed venue catering for breakfast, lunch, dinner and pre-dinner aperitivo with light refreshments, including takeaway,” said Fabio Angele.
The venue is open daily from 7am to late, with pastries, a selection of panini and hot breakfast items for those looking for a leisurely start to the day. At the panini counter, you’ll find classic panini, arancini and pizza al taglio for lunch.
“In the afternoon, we will serve made-to-order taglieri, our antipasto offering which can be accompanied by a refreshing tap pulled Italian beer or item from our new cocktail menu, perfect for an aperitivo before the movie or after-work drink,” said Fabio.
And of course, at Brunetti Classico you can’t miss their extensive selection of sweet treats. Look forward to handmade cakes, produced on-site in Carlton by a team of skilled pastry chefs. Or, cool down with a scoop of tasty gelato.
You can access the store via the main entrance on Puckle Street, or through the site’s internal laneway, which runs from Penny Lane to Puckle Street. There is an underground car park available, as well as public transport options, like trams, trains and buses.
Boutique on Drummond Street, Carlton
In addition to the new store in Moonee Ponds, Brunetti Classico has also opened a new concept boutique on Dummond Street in Carlton, just moments away from their original flagship restaurant. This tiny space is just 40 square metres, and can seat approximately ten people. It provides takeaway options, perfect for customers who need to keep moving, but are also ready to try something new.
Some of the new menu items will be showcased at the Drummond Street store, including the Roman sweet, Maritozzo.
“It’s a centuries old recipe, which my father Giorgio learnt when he worked in Rome 60 years ago,” said Fabio. “It is a beautiful light brioche, which is traditionally filled with a sweetened fresh cream.”
You’ll find a range of Maritozzi flavours, including tiramisu, biscoff caramel, zabaione, cookies and pistachio raspberry.
There will also be croissants, which you can get piped with your choice of flavour.
If sweets aren’t your thing, don’t worry. There’s plenty of savoury options to go around, filled with fresh cured meats and local cheeses. Don’t forget to grab a coffee while you’re there.
The store is open seven days a week, and you can find it at Shop D, 333 Drummond Street in Carlton.
