We just love flowers, and although autumn is more famous for its falling leaves, there’s still some floral festivals and events for us to enjoy, such as the Tesselaar KaBloom Festival of Flowers. And if you’re craving even more floral fun, there’s a lovely farm just outside of Bendigo that’s offering a pick your own dahlias experience. Escape to Pure Maiden Farm for their Dahlia Festival, and pick your own flowers, take part in a scavenger hunt and wander through thousands of blooming dahlias. The Dahlia Festival will take place on Saturday, March 21 from 10am to 3pm.
Dahlia Festival at Pure Maiden Farm
Round up the whole family and take a day trip to Pure Maiden Farm to take part in this wholesome event. The flower field in Maiden Gully should be bursting with thousands of colourful, blooming dahlias. Wander through the field, take plenty of photos, and pick your favourites to take home. Snippers and wrapping will be provided, so you won’t have to worry.
Try out a scavenger hunt, and look for clues around the field in order to win a prize. For more goodies, take part in a family photo contest for the chance to win a special item valued at $150. The kids will also have fun getting creative in the craft corner.
If you’d like to learn more, there will be Dahlia Education Sessions, where you’ll hear growing tips, techniques and insights from the growers.
As this is a working farm, you’ll need to wear closed-toe shoes. Bring a picnic rug along if you’d like to linger longer among the blooms. Unfortunately, pets aren’t allowed to come along.
Entry is free!
More cool stuff
This festival is presented in conjunction with the Eaglehawk Dahlia and Arts Festival. Stick around the area from March 20 to 22 for more fun stuff, like a parade, a market and a flower show. See what else is happening during the festival here.
If you can’t make it to the Dahlia Festival, Pure Maiden Farm also runs Pick Your Own Flower sessions on Saturdays from 9am to 2pm. Flowers are $35 for a jug, or $150 for a bucket. Bookings aren’t required. Learn more about them here.
