From the fantasy RenFair a few months ago, to Starfall Ball and Geelong Medieval Festival later this year, there’s lots of ways for us to escape the everyday, and lose ourselves in dreamy new worlds. And if you’re keen for a night of fairy tale splendour, you should add the Dark Fae Masquerade Ball to your social calendar. Inspired by the masquerade traditions of Europe, you’re invited to dress up and dance through the night, with live entertainment, side quests, food and even a fantasy market. Presented by True Fairies and Curious Events Co, this adults-only celebration will take place at Box Hill Town Hall. It’s all happening on Saturday, October 3, with the market starting at 4pm, and the ball itself running from 7:30pm to 1am.
Dark Fae Masquerade Ball
This event will celebrate the tenth anniversary of True Fairies, an enchanting fantasy venue in Melbourne’s east. Before the ball itself, head to Curious Events space in Bayswater North for some exclusive sessions, including dance classes, costume workshops and hair & makeup sessions. Make new friends, and develop your character. Will you be a part of the Dark Fae, the Vampires, the Elves or the Orcs?
Then, on the day itself, discover a dark fantasy market beneath the ballroom. Find all sorts of handmade, carved, painted and independently produced treasures available for purchase. Throughout the afternoon, there will be bards, buskers, food trucks, coffee vans and a bar available. This magical market is on from 4pm to 8pm.
As for the ball, expect live music and immersive performances. See a shadow fae jester, a mysterious oracle, a mermaid fairy and more cool characters, as well as hypnotic hula hoop demonstrations, a silk fan veil performance and more. A professional photographer will be roaming around to help you capture some memories. If you’d like a lasting souvenir, there will be a tattoo artist, providing real tattoos throughout the night.
You can also expect food truck vendors, treats and a bar, with your choice of a wine, beer or soft drink package.
If you need to take a breather, there will be quiet spaces for you to rest in.
There are a few different ticket tiers available, starting with general admission, which includes one drink from the champagne tower, and levelling up to the High Fae ticket or King and Queen ticket, which has added perks like front row tables, drink packages and an included meal.
