We’ve been having a blooming good time chasing the flowers this spring, with dreamy gardens like Alowyn Gardens, Dandenong Ranges Botanic Gardens, George Tindale Memorial Gardens and Banksia Park. There’s also been some great flower festivals so far, including the Blossom Festival and the Tesselaar Tulip Festival. If you’re keen for more seasonal splendour, drive an hour away from Melbourne and experience the annual Bluebell Festival at Duneira Estate. Visit this original hill station in the Macedon Ranges, and meander around the vast heritage garden. As you go, you’ll see a delightful row of pretty bluebells along Dutch Elm Avenue. The festival will take place on October 31 and November 1, from 10am to 4pm.

Duneira Bluebell Festival 2026
This stunning estate was originally built in the 1870s as a retreat for wealthy families in search of cooler mountain air during the hot summer months. Today, it is home to 38 acres of gardens, with sweeping lawns, chestnut groves, an apple orchard and more. In spring, the garden is particularly stunning, with flowering trees, rhododendrons, magnolias and yes, bluebells. Stroll along Dutch Elm Avenue, and marvel at the carpet of pretty blue flowers. Guided garden tours will be held in the morning and afternoon.
Gaze at the magnificent bluebells, and soak in the joyful atmosphere with music from So Saxy. If you’re hungry, you’ll find homemade treats from the Macedon CWA, including scones with jam and cream. There will also be a sausage sizzle and barista coffee. For something a bit stronger, sip on a glass of wine from ECK Wines, or a gin and tonic from the distillery, Travelling While Standing Still.
While you’re there, take a moment to walk through the house, built around 1875, and admire the art collection. Entry to the house and garden tours are included in the ticket price.
If you can’t make it to the festival, that’s ok! Duneira Estate is also open from Tuesday to Sunday, as well as on Mondays if they’re a public holiday. To plan your visit, click here.
