When you think of Ferris wheels in Melbourne, you might think of the controversial Melbourne Star in Docklands, which closed in 2021 after a tumultuous history. And if you’ve missed soaring through the sky, don’t worry, there’s a new Ferris wheel in town. Stroll over to Polly Woodside Park in South Wharf, and take a spin on the 35-metre-tall Ferris wheel. Gaze at the city skyline and the Yarra River, then explore the surrounding Skyline Precinct for delicious food and drink. The Giant Ferris Wheel will run from now until September 22.
Ferris Wheel and Skyline Precinct in South Wharf
This new amusement ride is run by Skyline Attractions, the same team behind the Ferris wheels in St Kilda and Glenelg in Adelaide. You’ll find the Giant Ferris Wheel in front of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Hop inside a comfy enclosed gondola, and take in panoramic views of the surrounding area. Each ride lasts between eight to ten minutes, so there’s plenty of time for you to soak in the sights.
If you’re hungry, you’ll find pizzas, snacks, desserts, drinks and even cocktails in the adjacent Skyline Precinct. For a bit of extra fun, swing over to the 9-hole mini-golf course, and take pictures in front of a pretty light installation.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Skyline Precinct and Giant Ferris Wheel to Melbourne,” said Jane Jones, Business Manager at Skyline Attractions. “This exciting new venue promises to be a highlight of the city’s attractions, offering an unparalleled experience for all who visit.”
You can purchase tickets on-site, or book in advance online. The attraction is open from 10am to 11pm each day.
