We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to dazzling winter events this year. Melbourne will shine with spectacular events like Lightscape, Firelight Festival and the Puffing Billy Train of Lights. Meanwhile, the Harry Potter Forbidden Forest Experience is currently enchanting visitors on the Mornington Peninsula. Beloved theme park Gumbuya World is also lighting up the night with a brilliant new event that combines cutting-edge technology with traditional First Nations storytelling. Get excited for Gumbuya Dreaming, an event that celebrates Indigenous culture with stories, installations and soundscapes. The experience will run from now until Sunday July 21.
Gumbuya Dreaming
Gumbuya World has different zones for you to explore, and each section has interactive installations for you to admire. Explore the beauty of shimmering flowers, marvel at the dance of fire and water, and appreciate the majesty of the land and the animals. The Lazy River will transform into an illuminated Billabong, and a soundscape will guide you down a wildlife trail and among glowing trees.
This experience was created by renowned Indigenous artist Wayne Quilliam, whose work recently featured at The Lume’s Connection exhibition.
“Each one of the zones is connected through our traditional storytelling, they’re a culmination of my knowledge and all the stories that have been told to me,” said Quilliam. “We’ve created this as a meeting place to share our stories with the world and tell the history of the land that it’s sitting on.”
On top of the new light experience, you can also go on the rides at the park, and keep your energy up with delicious treats from a selection of food trucks.
This inaugural experience will truly bring the meaning of Gumbuya, ‘meeting place’, to life.
The venue will open for the theme park rides and food trucks at 3:30pm. The Gumbuya Dreaming experience will start at 5:30pm, and run until 8pm.
