From mussel capitals to hidden gems, Victoria is packed with wonderful coastal towns for a lovely weekend away. And if you’re searching for something to do by the sea over the Labour Day long weekend, why don’t you escape to East Gippsland and explore the picturesque town of Lakes Entrance? This popular holiday spot will be bustling with activities for fishing enthusiasts and seafood lovers at the Hooked on Lakes Entrance event. Expect cooking demonstrations, fishing clinics for kids, live music and more. Find this free event at the Lakes Entrance Foreshore Reserve on Sunday March 8. The main event will run from 11am to 4pm, with live music, food and drinks continuing until 8pm.

Hooked on Lakes Entrance
Take a shuttle bus tour with Lakes Entrance Fishermen’s Co-Op (LEFCOL), where you’ll see filleting demos, hear preparation tips and have the chance to buy fresh seafood.
Feel inspired with a cooking demo, and satisfy your cravings at one of the food trucks. Then, check out the pop-up market for something cool to take home.
If you’re a fan of fishing, there will be a swap-meet, where you can donate, trade or pick up recycled fishing and outdoor equipment.
The kids will have fun, with ‘Come and Try’ fishing clinics, and a Kids Zone filled with fish-themed craft activities and more.
From 2pm to 6pm, there will be a Battle of the Bands and a Battle of the Buskers. Listen to live music and cheer on local, emerging talent. The weekend will be headlined by high-energy folk and blues duo, Pierce Brothers.

Seafood Extravaganza
If you can’t get enough of seafood, Off the Wharf cafe is hosting a ticketed event on Saturday night. This event will showcase the best seafood that East Gippsland has to offer, with roaming cold platters and hot food stations. Tickets are $75 per person, and include a glass of wine or beer on entry, and live music on the night.
