We’ve made it to summer, and there’s an abundance of popular coastal towns, underrated seaside spots and spectacular beaches for us to explore. And if you’re looking for somewhere to stay with an plenty of golden beaches and outdoor activities, as well as proximity to beloved summer attractions, then why don’t you try and stay at Venus Bay? This alluringly-named town in Gippsland is located on a narrow peninsula, and is comfortably sandwiched between Phillip Island and Wilsons Promontory National Park. This small settlement has a population of around 900 people, but during the holidays, it can surge to accommodate thousands of sunseekers. Flock to this coastal spot this summer, and fall in love with the wild charms of Venus Bay.

This seaside destination offers the best of both worlds, with beaches for surfing on one side, and sheltered waters on the other side. There’s five surf beaches for you to check out, and are conveniently named No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. These beaches all have strong currents and high surf. For your safety, it’s best to stick to beach No. 1, as this is the only one patrolled by surf lifesavers in summer.
Switch over to the other side of the peninsula for the calmer waters of Andersons Inlet. The water here is great for families, and also offer other sun-drenched activities like boating and fishing. See if you can spot any kangaroos grazing near the mangrove flats along the inlet.

If you don’t feel like getting wet, stretch your legs on the Point Smythe Nature Trail or drive about 30 minutes away and explore the nearby Cape Liptrap Coastal Park. Walk among tea tree and banksia woodlands, admire the rock pools and check out the Cape Liptrap Lighthouse. A short drive away from Venus Bay, you’ll also find the popular town of Inverloch and its awesome dinosaur fossil site. Keep going to Cape Paterson for more beaches and coastal trails.

Staying overnight? There is a caravan park 500 metres away from the beach with a number of cabins, units and sites. There’s also holiday houses, motels and hotels in the surrounding area.
Venus Bay is just over an hour away from both Phillip Island and Wilsons Prom, so you can visit these popular summer spots as a day trip.
