But if you’re looking for somewhere that’s a little more… central, and sessions are all booked out at the original IMAX in Carlton, then head over to the HOYTS at Melbourne Central. This cinema now has an upgraded IMAX auditorium, so you can watch new releases in style.
IMAX at Melbourne Central
Experience a wider range of colours, brighter images and deeper contrast the next time you’re at the cinema. The cinema is equipped with IMAX with Laser, which delivers sharp 4K images, precision audio and state-of-the-art projection technology, including custom-designed lenses and an innovative optical engine.

Right now, you can watch Avatar: Fire and Ash, which was digitally remastered specifically for this new system. Each frame feels sharper, and the soundtrack has been remixed to fully immerse you in the world of the film.
This year, the cinema at Melbourne Central went through major refurbishments. On top of the new IMAX with Laser, moviegoers can also enjoy experiences like D-Box Motion Recliners, HOYTS LUX, Daybeds and SCREENX.
