The famous tearooms at the top of Mount Macedon are about to get a major refurbishment. Located at the top of a 1,000 metre high mountain, these iconic tearooms first opened to customers in 2000, replacing a building that was destroyed in the 1983 Ash Wednesday fires. The tearooms closed earlier this year when its lease wasn’t renewed, and a new lease has been given to a new operator, who will transform the space. Works will begin in the coming weeks, and Macedon Tea Rooms are expected to open in late 2025. In the meantime, there will be a mobile coffee van up there, so you can grab a hot drink or a bite to eat while enjoying the view.

The venue will be transformed, and feature an expanded outdoor seating area, so that you will be able to take in the scenic views, as well as enjoy evening dining. It will also be used as a space for events and functions.
“Everyone who has visited the summit of Mount Macedon knows what a special place it is,” said Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos. “This is a beautiful, historic park that offers opportunities for horse riding and hiking, picnicking, cycling, rock climbing and scenic drives. The new tenants have exciting plans to renovate the tearooms and make it an even better experience, bringing the best local produce to the more than 300,000 visitors who come here each year.”
The venue is located on the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross Reserve, which will also receive a $810,000 upgrade. This spot hosts the Anzac Day dawn service each year, and is also a popular space for tourists.
