Just last year, we were treated to an adorable pop-up Hello Kitty Cafe in Chadstone. And because we miss it so much, Hello Kitty has come back to Melbourne, and she’s brought the whole Sanrio family along too! Swing by the Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe, which is now on Level 1 of Melbourne Central, opposite JB Hi-Fi. This sweet spot has brought the world of Sanrio to life with creatively designed spaces and plenty of delightful treats. The cafe is now open to the public, and is open daily from 10am to 8pm.
Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe
This darling space celebrates Hello Kitty, as well as her friends like Cinnamoroll, Kuromi and My Melody. The centrepiece of the cafe is Cinnamoroll World, a character-themed space dedicated to the adorable cinnamon roll-tailed puppy. Catch up with your besties over delightful dishes with a Japanese twist, such as croissant sandos, poke bowls, curry and bento boxes. There’s also lovely desserts to try, like a cute Hello Kitty Cake, a croffle with ice cream and a pumpkin burnt cheesecake. Quench your thirst with cheerful signature drinks, like My Melody Ice Strawberry, Pom Pom Brûlée Milk Tea and Keroppi Kreme Matcha. You’ll also find plenty of coffee, tea, iced drinks and mocktails.
Meanwhile, on the exterior of the cafe, you’ll find a Hello Kitty Corner, which is great if you’re on the go and you’re looking for a quick coffee or a pastry.
The Friends Garden celebrates the Sanrio family and Melbourne Central with bespoke illustrations, such as the iconic Clock and Shot Tower.
The space also features an exclusive gift shop, filled with limited-edition merchandise designed just for Melbourne Central. Each month, look out for embroidered patches, plush toys, caps, shirts, keyrings and greeting cards.
“This one-of-a-king experience is a true celebration of two icons — Hello Kitty and Friends, and the vibrant city of Melbourne,” said Silvia Figini, Chief Operating Officer Sanrio (EMEA, India and Oceania). “We’re proud to have seamlessly blended Sanrio’s beloved aesthetic with Melbourne’s unique spirit and creativity: a perfect match that locals will fall in love with, just as we did.”
An award-winning team of Australian creatives, including art director Eddie Zammit and illustrator Travis Price, were behind the cafe’s concept and merchandise.
