We love a good market, and there’s an exciting new one that’s coming to the heart of the city. In this collaboration between The Rose St. Artists’ Market and City Precinct, you can expect a curated event, showcasing the works of up to 40 emerging artists, designers and makers. The Melbourne Makers Market will run on select Saturdays every month, taking over City Square. It will launch on Saturday, September 19, and run from 10am to 3pm.

This new market in the CBD is brought to you by the team behind Rose St. Artists’ Market, who have been running markets since 2003. They’ve put together markets in Fitzroy, Kensington and Carlton, and taken over some historic venues like Rippon Lea, and most recently, Barwon Park Mansion. And now, they’re setting up in City Square.
This civic space reopened to the public late last year, along with the new Town Hall Station. Located on Swanston Street, the refreshed City Square is home to a range of public artwork and raised garden beds. It can be easily reached on foot, or by train or tram.
Wander over to the market, and spend your Saturday leisurely exploring the different stalls. Each vendor is carefully chosen, and must be locally based and in the first ten years of their professional practice. The stallholders must also make their own original products, and show a commitment to sustainability. Look forward to art, jewellery, ceramics, textiles, prints and more. Since this market has a focus on art and design, there will be no food available for purchase.
