Staycation here we come!
The state government’s Regional Victoria Travel Voucher Scheme has been a huge success with a third round of vouchers going up for grabs at the end of this month. Now, though, it’s Melbourne’s turn to get in on the staycation boost. And not just the CBD, but 26 local-government areas as well! (Featured image: @filip_co)
The Melbourne Travel Voucher Scheme will operate similarly to the scheme for regional Victoria, but with a few key differences.
To begin, Victorians aged eighteen or above are eligible for the travel voucher scheme. But to claim the $200 from the state government, they will need to spend at least $400 including the purchase of two nights of accommodation in metropolitan Melbourne.
That means that to claim the Melbourne travel vouchers, accommodation must be paid for at either serviced apartments, backpackers and hostels, bed and breakfasts, cabins or caravans in holiday parks, caravan site fees, cottages, private holiday rentals, motels, hotels, resorts, retreats and lodges.
Travellers can also claim expenses on attractions as well as tours.
In total, 40,000 vouchers will be made available by the state government (one per household), which can be accessed from 10am on Friday 12 March. These will then be redeemable throughout an eight-week period between 19 March and 16 May 2021.
Unfortunately, the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Dandenong Ranges and Frankston are excluded from the Melbourne Travel Voucher Scheme as they are currently getting boosts by the Regional Victoria Travel Voucher Scheme, so they’re already winning.
