European Bier Café is currently undergoing a multi-million-dollar renovation. When it is complete, the venue will be completely transformed into a multi-level pub, with a New York-style basement comedy club, dining area, bar and rooftop. The venue will relaunch as Morris House, as a nod to the building’s heritage and original name in 1924. Morris House is set to be Melbourne’s home of comedy, with room for 550 guests across the basement, dining and level one areas, and a rooftop with capacity for 180 guests. Morris House is currently scheduled to reopen in autumn this year.
Morris House
The upscale venue will have four fantastic levels to discover.
Its current comedy basement will transform into a moody, neon-lit space inspired by the comedy clubs of New York. The revamped ground floor dining space will serve elevated pub classics and snacks for sharing. Relax on the plush booths with your friends and enjoy the good vibes. On level one, you’ll find a new bar and entertainment space that’s perfect for live music and private events. It’ll also feature a new balcony that will overlook Exhibition Street. On the roof, you’ll sip on cocktails and graze on sociable share plates, surrounded by leafy green surrounds. The rooftop will have comfy furniture and weather and windproof elements.
Designed by architect, Red Design, the building’s current dark facade will be replaced by a lighter and brighter colour palette.
“It’s a complete transformation,” promises Paul Waterson, CEO of Australian Venue Co.
Situated on 120 Exhibition Street, Morris House is set to be a go-to spot for both comedy lovers and corporate diners. All areas of European Bier Café will stay closed during the renovation. The venue will reopen in autumn.
