The Skytrax World Airport Awards took place last week, ranking the top airports from around the globe. Operating since 1999, the results are based on the largest annual global airport customer satisfaction survey. Over 575 airports are featured in the survey, and travellers are asked to evaluate their experience, covering topics like facilities, queuing times, terminal comfort and staff friendliness. And Melbourne Airport was listed as the best airport in Australia and the Pacific region for the sixth time in seven years, appearing at number 21 on the list.

While Melbourne Airport was the top spot in the region, it had dropped in the rankings from 2025, appearing in 16th place just last year. Other airports, like London Heathrow and Fukuoka, had risen in the rankings, leading to Melbourne’s new position.

“We’re incredibly proud that travellers continue to rate us as the best airport in our region, but we want to be even better,” said Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus. “The people who work at Melbourne Airport are our secret sauce and always strive to put our customers first, but sometimes our infrastructure and border technology let us down.”
Argus said that Melbourne Airport is now going through a period of significant transformation, with new Pick Up and Drop Off zones coming in September, and an international terminal expansion underway.
“We understand that major works can be disruptive, but this award is testament to the hard work we’ve done as a team to manage that disruption,” said Argus.
Brisbane Airport appeared 40th on the list, followed by Sydney in 52nd place, Auckland in 54th, Perth in 58th and Gold Coast in 81st place.
Meanwhile, the Pullman Brisbane Airport won the award as Best Airport Hotel in Australia & Pacific region.
