The next time you’re on your way to a spa day in Daylesford, or checking out the falls in Trentham, why don’t you grab a bite to eat at The Blackwood Hotel? Located an hour away from Melbourne, and about 30 minutes from Daylesford, this pub is Victoria’s oldest continuously licensed weatherboard hotel. It was established in 1868, and has just been refurbished, inviting both locals and travellers alike to dine within its charming walls.
The Blackwood Hotel
As you can guess from the name, you’ll find this pub in the historic, gold mining town of Blackwood. This peaceful haven is nestled next to Wombat State Forest and Lerderderg State Park. The renovated venue is now being run by John Scardamaglia and Jerry Dimas, who have over 50 years of hospitality experience between them.
“The Blackwood Hotel is the historic jewel of Blackwood’s main street and it’s our intention to respect its heritage for many future generations to enjoy,” said co-owner Jerry. “Our aim is to create an inviting and comfortable venue for locals and visitors and serve the best possible meals and beverages.”
On the menu, you’ll find all of your pub favourites, like parma, pork belly and Sher Wagyu rump. You’ll also find global influences with a modern Australian style, such as a Greek-inspired lamb shoulder or a flavoursome paella. Along with the food, you’ll find local beers on tap and award-winning wine from the region. There’s also a variety of cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks to try.
The venue has a deck, where you can relax and enjoy your meal while taking in scenic forest views. There’s also open fireplaces to keep you nice and toasty during the winter months.
This space is open daily, from 12pm to late from Monday to Friday, and from 11:30am to late on Saturday and Sunday.
