Wellness Social Club, the same place behind the sober sauna rave, has come up with a new event that will have you sweating. Follow in the footsteps of other bathing cultures like Finland, Germany and Japan, and relax in the sauna without wearing any clothing. While you’re there, dip into the hot and cold pools in your birthday suit for a bit of contrast therapy. The BARE session will take place on International Nude Day, on Tuesday, July 14.

BARE at Wellness Social Club
This session, which is capped at 20 people, aims to normalise this traditional wellness practice. Get comfortable in your own skin and look after your wellbeing in this stripped back experience. Instead of worrying about how you look, focus on how you feel.
“In many parts of the world, this is just how sauna is experienced,” said Wellness Social Club founder Tamara O’Dowd. “It’s practical, it’s respectful, and it’s not something people think twice about. In Australia, wellness can feel more curated and externally focused, and BARE is about challenging that perspective.”
Step into the Finnish sauna, where the heat will encourage your body to sweat, relax and improve circulation. Then, try a bit of contrast therapy by alternating between the cold plunge and hot pool.

According to O’Dowd, going in your natural state can improve your session. “Swimwear can trap eat and sweat, making it harder for your body to regulate properly,” she explained. “When your skin is exposed, heat spreads more evenly, improving circulation and your natural sweat response. It also makes the shift between hot and cold feel smoother and more effective.”
Sessions run for 60 minutes, and you’re invited to go at your own pace. To keep things safe and respectful, there will be a staff member nearby. If anyone makes you feel uncomfortable, they will be asked to leave.
If you arrive, and you realise that being a naturist isn’t for you, that’s ok! Swimwear will be optional.
Everyone will be given a small sweat towel, and towel hire is also available if you forget to bring your own.
