Last week, the team behind the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants guide dropped the rankings for their new list, World’s 101 Best Burger Places. This list celebrates the restaurants, bars and burger specialists that take this fan-favourite dish to the next level. The results were decided based on the total experience, including the bun, the patty, the chips, the service, the cleanliness and the quality. And to our delight, a couple of places around Melbourne were named among the World’s 101 Best Burger Places. So, the next time you’re craving a burger, here’s where you should go.
World’s 101 Best Burger Places in Melbourne
Over 1,500 burgers were tasted and evaluated by a network of ‘steak and burger ambassadors’. These experts come from a broad industry background, such as notable chefs or food journalists.
Charrd in Brunswick East featured in the Top 20, and was ranked in 13th place. What first began as a lunch special for restaurant Yakamoz rapidly turned into a cult following, with the venue opening up a tiny takeaway window for burgers just last year. Choose between either a classic cheeseburger or the Charred burger, which has caramelised onions, chilli jam and truffle aioli. Both burgers can come with a single or double patty. Round it out with some chips, and pair your meal with an iced tea or lemonade. Expect some long lines for this one.
Meanwhile, Seoul Tiger 1998 appeared on the list at number 37. This venue on Elizabeth Street opened in February this year, and there are five burgers with a Korean spin to choose from. Try single or double cheesebugers inspired by bulgogi, go for a veggie burger with house-made pickled onions, sink your teeth into a Korean fried chicken burger or try the lightly fried prawn burger. This venue is run by the same team as North Melbourne bakery, Baguette Studios, so you can bet that the burger buns are top-notch.
