The twin towns of Echuca and Moama have transformed into an enchanting celebration of the beloved children’s classic, Alice in Wonderland. Tumble down the rabbit hole and find plenty of experiences and activations over the warmer months, including themed Devonshire tea, themed escape rooms and more. The main Wonderland event, a curious sand sculpture trail along the Murray, is free to attend, and is on from now until Monday March 9.

Wonderland on the Murray
Meander along a 2.5km trail, and discover nine massive sand sculptures inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Start at the historic Port of Echuca, and see Alice fall down the rabbit hole. Continue along through the Port and Aquatic Reserve, then cross the Murray into Moama to continue your journey into Wonderland. You’ll find the last sculpture at Kerrabee Reserve, where you’ll see Alice’s Tea Party inside the Soundshell.
Look forward to sculptures depicting:
- Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole
- The Caterpillar and Cheshire Cat
- The White Rabbit’s House
- Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum
- The White Rabbit on his way to the tea party
- The Queen of Hearts and her Card Soldiers
- Alice emerging from the rabbit hole
- Alice’s Tea Party
These sculptures were created by Sandstorm Events, the same team behind the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships.
More peculiar things to do

From now until March 9, there’s plenty of fun things to do at pubs, cafes, art centres, libraries and bookshops around the region.
Hire a vessel from Let’s Boat and cruise along the river. Look out for hidden characters and snap photos of them to win prizes.
Stay indoors at Escape Studios, and take part in an escape room inspired by Wonderland. Sessions are available daily during the school holidays.
Children aged 4 to 14 are welcome to visit Customs House Gallery and take part in themed art workshops, with inspiration from scenes and characters like the White Rabbit or the Drink Me Potion.
Pop over to the Murray River Tea Rooms in Moama for a themed Devonshire Tea. For more magical treats, find Queen of Hearts jam tarts at Beechworth Bakery, character cookies at Flour & Love, Cheshire Cat ice cream at The Port Ice Creamery and more.
Beyond Echuca and Moama, you’ll find delightful activations in Kyabram. Pop over to the Croquet Club for a game worthy of the Queen, pick up seeds from the library to grow your own flowers and discover a sprinkle of Wonderland with yarn bombing on the streets.
