Lanzhou beef noodles are certainly having a moment in Melbourne. These hand-pulled noodles with tender beef and flavoursome broth are a winning combo, and perfect to try from day to night. And soon, you’ll have a chance to try these noodles for free. After taking over Box Hill and Elizabeth Street, Bowltiful is opening their new and largest store on 249 Swanston Street at 12pm on Saturday February 18. And to celebrate, they’re giving away free noodle bowls to the first 249 customers from 12pm over the course of three days.
Bowltiful
Everything at this restaurant, including the chilli oil, is made from scratch. The chefs at Bowltiful all train for at least six months to become experts in hand-pulled noodles. Taught by Lanzhou masters, these chefs measure each ball of dough, and pull it to the desired thickness.
Each serve at Bowltiful is hand-pulled to order, boiled for no more than 60 seconds, then topped with a steamy broth. The warm broth is made with over 15 Chinese herbs and spices, and is simmered for four hours. The bowl is then finished with toppings of choice. All of the meat is halal, and there’s vegetarian options available too.
On the menu, you’ll find a mixture of soups and dry noodles, including Braised Beef Brisket Noodle Soup, Braised Lamb Flap Noodle Soup and Dry Noodle with Soybean Paste & Minced Beef. Vegetarian options include Dry Noodle with Stir-Fried Mixed Vegetables or Hot Chilli Oil Spill Dry Noodle.
If you’re not in the mood for noodles, try the Lanzhou-style Spicy Lamb Burger, filled with 3-hour braised beef brisket. Or, try the Beef & Green Pepper Burger, packed with zesty green peppers. You can also try lamb skewers, cucumber salad and steamed buns.
Once it opens, Bowltiful will operate daily from 10am to 2am.
