9 Festive Christmas Markets To Discover Around Melbourne

Christmas is almost here! And after the year that we’ve had, it’s time to treat those around you with some thoughtful gifts. If you’re stuck for ideas or looking for something with a personal touch, you can’t go wrong with a Christmas market. Explore some of these wonderfully festive Christmas markets around Melbourne, and discover locally-made goods that would make the perfect present.

1. String Bean Alley Night Market

Queen Vic Market is getting in on the festive spirit with a Christmas night market on String Bean Alley. As part of the Melbourne Christmas Festival, this night market will be filled with street food, locally-made gifts, Christmas carollers, fake snow, and a giant gingerbread man for pictures. If you’re lucky, Santa might pop in for a visit!

Enjoy the market on Monday nights from 5pm to 10pm, on December 6, 13 and 20.

2. Artisan Christmas Market on Bay Street

Head to Port Melbourne and discover unique gifts from local artisans, designers and crafters. Over 150 vendors will be there, with a range of jewellery, art pieces, handmade gifts, goodies for dogs and more! There will also be live music and food and beverages from nearby cafes and restaurants.

This market will take place on Saturday December 4, from 12pm to 7pm.

3. Christmas in Degraves

Pop into this iconic Melbourne laneway every Saturday. At this Christmas pop-up, you’ll engage with retailers on the street and listen to some of Melbourne’s best buskers. If you need help, there’s also a gift-wrapping service to keep your presents looking neat and tidy.

After that, soak in the atmosphere and gaze at the twinkling Christmas lights.

4. The District Christmas Night Market

Visit The District in Docklands and join them for a delightful Christmas Night Market. There will be colourful market stalls, homemade produce, live entertainment and more. Dogs are welcome to tag along!

This night market will take place on Friday December 17, from 4pm to 9pm.

5. Heide Christmas Market

Enter the picturesque sculpture park at the Heide Museum of Modern Art and browse an eclectic mix of goods from local stall holders. Discover art, jewellery, accessories, homewares and more. For the personal touch, chat directly with makers to learn about their process, or commission a completely unique design. Heide Market is a collaboration between the Heide Museum of Modern Art and The Rose St. Artists’ Market.

Their Christmas Market will take place on Saturday December 11, from 10am to 3pm.

6. Postal Lane Markets

Discover a curated selection of Australian makers, creators, live music, food, drink and more in the heart of the CBD.

This laneway market will take place every Friday from 4 to 8pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 6pm.

7. Arts Centre Weekend Markets

The wonderful weekend markets at Arts Centre are back just in time for Christmas! Wander along St Kilda Road between Hamer Hall and the iconic spire to see a selection of locally-made goods.

The weekend markets will run every Saturday and Sunday until December 19, between 10am and 4pm.

8. Moorooduc Station Market

Travel out to the historic Moorooduc Railway Station for their Christmas market. After shopping and dining at over 60 stalls, book a ride on the historic train into Mornington, and take in views of Mount Eliza Regional Park.

Moorooduc Station Christmas Market will take place on Sunday December 5, from 10am to 2pm.

9. Cire Community Christmas Twilight Markets

If you live around Chirnside Park, you’ll love this local event. With over 90 local makers, you’ll be sure to find the perfect gift at this Christmas Twilight Market. There will also be live Christmas carols to keep you in the festive spirit, as well as entertainment and food trucks.

This market will take place on Friday December 3, from 5pm to 9pm.
