An exciting new augmented reality experience is about to open in Melbourne. Get ready for Dreamskape, a 770 square metre entertainment complex filled with immersive experiences, games and activities. This multimedia space is the first time that Australia will experience an AR entertainment complex of this size and diversity. All games and experiences are visible to the naked eye, so you don’t need to worry about any tricky headsets. Dreamskape will open at The District Docklands on Friday June 28.
Dreamskape
There’s six activity zones to discover, featuring over 100 games and 50 immersive experiences. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the host robot, QB, who will always recognise you. QB will guide you to the activities, and provide more information about the games.
Look forward to things like:
- Dream Game – there’s four custom-built game rooms to discover. Each one offers an interactive multi-level game with lasers, light, colour and movement. Games include Laser Challenge, Jumping Lattice and Devil’s Eye, and each one goes for ten minutes.
- Dream Verse – enter an immersive, 540-degree cinematic experience. There’s three ten-minute movies on rotation: Thrilling Journey, Sea Adventures and Dinosaur Adventure.
- Dream Coaster – go on an AR roller coaster ride with 270-degree visuals and surround sound. Hop in the coaster car, and experience real wind, mist and bubbles. The ride will go for ten minutes, and will open later this year.
The following zones can be experienced at any ticket level and are always on.
- Dream Light – enter a room full of blacklight art, created by talented art and design university students from around Melbourne.
- Dream Immersion – this Instagrammable space has interactive scenery that shifts from pretty flowers to cool animals, colourful shapes and more.
- Little Dream – children over the age of three can see their drawings transform into 3D characters, play a game of AR soccer and try interactive projection games.
“We have seen a lot of VR and 3D entertainment emerge over the last decade, but now it’s evolving,” said Joanna Chen, President of Dreamskape. “You don’t need a headset or anything like that to engage in experiences like what we have at Dreamskape. This makes it so much more accessible to a wide range of people.”
This new space in Docklands is just the beginning of their Dreamskape journey. Over the next five to eight years, the team plan on building an additional 20 venues around Australia and New Zealand.
Dreamskape will be open at Docklands every day, except for Good Friday and Christmas Day. They will open from 11am to 7pm from Monday to Wednesday, Thursday to Friday from 11am to 10pm, and weekends and public holidays from 10am to 10pm. Bookings are available now.
