Chasing the autumn leaves this year? If you can’t resist a road trip, why don’t you hop in the car and take a leisurely drive to Marysville? Along the way, you’ll cruise down the utterly vibrant Gould Memorial Drive, which is framed by bright poplars on either side. You’ll find this stunning stretch of road between Buxton and Marysville, less than two hours away from Melbourne.

Gould Memorial Drive
This lovely avenue of Lombardy poplar trees is sure to raise your spirits, as it transforms into a cheery row of yellow in autumn. These trees were planted by the late Lloyd Gould as a way to enhance the driving experience into Marysville, and it worked! In autumn every year, tourists flock to this picturesque avenue to take in the seasonal splendour. The best time to visit is usually from late April to mid-May, but as this is a natural event, the exact timing is hard to pinpoint. It’s best to keep an eye on social media for up-to-date information. Even if you can’t make it in autumn, the trees are still gorgeous all year round.

These trees originally extended from the end of the Marysville golf course to Buxton, but unfortunately, many of these trees were destroyed by bushfires in 2009. Despite this, the remaining trees are still a spectacular sight.
Just take care as you drive along the road, as there may be pedestrians trying to take photos.
