Music icon Herbie Hancock is kicking off the Melbourne International Jazz Festival with a sensational performance at Sidney Myer Music Bowl. With a career spanning seven decades, and 14 Grammy awards, this will be a great chance for any jazz lover to see him live. Herbie Hancock will be joined on stage by the renowned Marcus Miller and local soul singer Bumpy. Jazz at the Bowl will take place on Saturday October 19.
Jazz at the Bowl
The exciting Jazz at the Bowl is coming back to Melbourne for its third year. Herbie Hancock is considered a living legend, with a huge influence on modern music. You might recognise his work from songs such as Cantaloupe Island, Chameleon and Rockit. He will perform in Melbourne as part of his Australia and New Zealand tour.
He will be joined on stage by two-time Grammy award winner Marcus Miller, who is considered one of the greatest electric bassists of all time. Miller has been in the industry for over 30 years, and has played for artists like Aretha Franklin and Elton John.
“Having Herbie Hancock and Marcus Miller perform on the same evening at the iconic Sidney Myer Music Bowl is nothing short of extraordinary,” said festival artistic director Michael Tortoni. “These two legends have shaped the soundscape of modern music in profound ways. Bringing them together in such a historic venue underscores the significance of Jazz at the Bowl and offers our audience a unique experience.”
Also on the line-up is award-winning composer, producer and Noongar woman, Bumpy. She has made a name for herself with her powerful voice, neo-soul storytelling and emotive performances.
Tickets for this event will go on sale at 1pm on Tuesday July 9. The full program for the Melbourne International Jazz Festival will be released in August.
