We love browsing through a good market, and if you’d like to visit one in the countryside, why don’t you consider the Kyneton Farmers’ Market? Located about an hour away from Melbourne, this thriving market in the Macedon Ranges features plenty of fresh produce, gourmet goodies and creative items from local makers. You can drive there, or leave the car at home and hop on the V/Line. The Kyneton Farmers’ Market takes place on the second Saturday of the month, and the next one will take place this week, on Saturday, August 8.
Kyneton Farmers’ Market
Running since 2004, this popular market is set on the historic grounds of St Paul’s Anglican Church. Meander around and check out over 50 stalls, right next to the picturesque, bluestone building.

As you go, you’ll find plenty of farmers, producers and makers, selling freshly baked sourdough bread, seasonal fruit and veggies, handmade cakes, local wines and pantry essentials like honey, jams and olives. You’ll also find cool plants to spruce up your home. Wander up the hill to the makers section for clothes, jewellery, ceramics and gifts.
With coffee vans, food trucks and a popular sausage sizzle, there’s loads to try if you’re feeling hungry. There’s usually entertainment too, like live music and face painting.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome to come along, as long as they’re on a leash.
What else can you do?

This market is located in the heart of Piper Street, so if you’ve got some more energy, wander up and down the street to check out the local boutiques and eateries. Keep going along Mollison and High streets for more cool shops. Stay in town and explore one of the local art galleries, or keep wandering around outdoors along the Campaspe River or through the Kyneton Botanic Gardens.
If you drove to Kyneton, head a little out of town to check out the Campaspe Mill Distillery and Gallery, or explore other cool places in the Macedon Ranges, such as the next door village of Malmsbury or the pretty Forest Glade Gardens.
