From The Big Rainbow in Daylesford, to The Giant Koala in Dadswell Bridge, we just love going for drives and gawking at Big Things! And now, there’s a brand-new attraction to add to your list, all the way in Mildura. Drive for six hours (or hop on a plane), and marvel at The Big Sultana. Standing 5.25m tall, or 525 times bigger than an average sultana, this huge new sculpture celebrates the 100-year anniversary of Sunbeam Foods and its deep connection to the Sunraysia region. You’ll find it smiling at you in Ornamental Lakes Park.

The Big Sultana
This huge sultana is made from fibreglass with a steel inner frame. It was built over 13 weeks, and weighs a whopping 1,250 kilos! It will stay up in the park for at least the next year.
“The Big Sultana is a fun tribute to the growers, workers and families who helped build our region’s agricultural legacy, and a new drawcard for tourism,” said Mayor of Mildura Rural City Council, Cr Ali Cupper. “We hope it becomes a must-see stop on the map and brings more visitors through Mildura.”
The piece was commissioned by Sunbeam, which was founded 100 years ago in the Mildura region. Most of its fruit is grown in vineyards across Victoria’s Murray Basin, with Queen Elizabeth II even visiting the region in 1954.
“We wanted to celebrate that history in a way that felt distinctly Australian, and what better way than by supersizing the humble sultana?” said Elizabeth Miller, General Manager, Sunbeam Foods.
It’s free to visit, and you can learn more about it here.
