There’s lots of wonderfully scenic drives to explore around Victoria. And, if you’d like to take your furry, best friend with you, why don’t you start planning a trip along the Great Ocean Road? After naming this iconic drive as Australia’s most loved road trip just last year, the car insurance experts at ROLLiN’ have also declared it to be one of the most pet-friendly road trips in the country. They looked at 22 iconic drives around the nation, scoring each route across factors like pet amenities, safety, comfort and overall experience. And, after crunching the numbers, they have ranked the Great Ocean Road as the fourth most pet-friendly road trip in Australia.

Great Ocean Road named as fourth most pet-friendly road trip in Australia
The data team sorted the rankings based on the following metrics: pet-friendly accommodation, dog-friendly eateries, dog parks and dog-friendly beaches, rest stops, veterinary clinics, snake risk, temperature comfort, scenic points of interest and dog-friendly trails.
The Great Ocean Road scored 68.8 out of 100 overall, and was praised for having 146 scenic points of interest and pet-friendly trails per 100km. It also features 66 pet-friendly parks and beaches every 100km, including Guvvos Beach in Anglesea and Sandy Gully Beach in Aireys Inlet. While your dog soaks in all the new smells, you’ll have plenty of cool things to see, with dramatic cliffs, stunning landmarks and coastal lookouts.
The Great Ocean Road also had a wide-range of options for pet-friendly dining, accommodation and rest stops, with over 14 pet-friendly accommodation options per 100km, such as Seamist Cottage in Apollo Bay.
Unfortunately, this road had nearly 100 sightings of snakes per 100km, making it fall in the rankings due to safety. However, it also has over two vet clinics per 100km.
