Melbourne is one of the best cities in the world for street art. So, it’s only fitting that a world-premiere exhibition about street art is coming to the CBD. Marvel at over 100 works by street artists, including locals Rone, Adnate and Sofles, as well as international names like Banksy, Barry McGee and Vhils. The Outsiders Melbourne exhibition is free to enter, and you’ll find it on the corner of Flinders Lane and Hosier Lane. It will run from December 12 to May 25.
The Outsiders Melbourne
This exhibition was taken from the private collection of Sandra Powell and Andrew King. Over the past 15 years, they have gathered the largest collection of street art in Australia, and the largest collection of Banksy artworks in the country. Known collectively as ‘Sandrew’, this exhibition features highlights from the Sandrew Collection.
Expect an entire room filled with Banksy artworks, including Firewall, which will be seen for the first time in Australia. Other highlights include Matt Adnate’s Echoes of a Teenage Superstar, his portrait of Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns. You can also look forward to a never-before-seen canvas by Rone.
Artists featured in the exhibition include Rone, Adnate, Vexta, Kaff-eine, Fintan Magee, Sofles, MEGGS, Banksy, Barry McGee, Vhils, Invader, Swoon, Hush, Shephard Fairey, Ron English and ELLE.
“These artists are outsiders,” said Andrew King. “They flourish outside the constraints of the established art world. Like the magnificent laneways of Melbourne, the walls of The Outsiders Melbourne will surprise, challenge and amuse.”
The exhibition will be open daily from 10am to 6pm, except for public holidays. Further details about the program will be revealed in 2025.
