It has been a great year for wellness in Melbourne, with new openings like Soak Bathhouse in South Yarra, Wellness Social Club in Preston, THERAPY in Eltham and even a floating sauna in Docklands. And now, there’s a new sanctuary that we can look forward to. Set within a heritage-listed space in South Melbourne, you’ll find plenty of tranquillity at else BATHHOUSE. The multi-level space will be filled with thermal baths, cold plunges and even a rooftop pool. It’s set to open on Bank Street in April 2026.

Nestled within the Emerald Hill precinct, the space was once home to wool trading and Croft’s Grocery Empire. While it has been reimagined for the bathhouse, you’ll still find reminders of the past, such as exposed brick, a heritage lift shaft, early 1900s murals and wool bale pulleys.

Take a journey across three levels, and feel restored as you try saunas, thermal baths, cold plunges, a mud and steam room, an alpine cabin and tranquil lounges. The journey culminates with Sky Bathing on the rooftop, where you’ll relax in open-air pools while gazing at the city skyline. In the sauna, experts will also lead signature Aufguss rituals, connecting you with centuries of global bathing traditions.
“Else is about presence, it’s about slowing down and stepping away from the noise of everyday life,” said Paul Absalom, Founder of else BATHHOUSE. “We wanted to offer something that would help people unwind and take care of themselves, a peaceful space woven into the rhythm of local life. Bringing else to South Melbourne felt natural.”
After it opens, the team hopes to open a second space in the High Country town of Bright.
