With many incredible sights like Trentham Falls, Steavenson Falls and MacKenzie Falls, we just love chasing waterfalls around the state. And, after being closed for about five years, a popular one not too far from Melbourne has just reopened to the public. Located 15 minutes away from Kyneton, Turpins Falls is a stunning natural spot, where water cascades 18 metres down into a refreshing billabong. The waterfall opened just last week, and now has a new viewing platform, staircase, a grassed open area and walking track. You’ll find this place within the Turpins Falls Scenic Reserve in Langley.

Turpins Falls
This site closed in December 2020, after a visitor was injured on the walking track. Works were done to provide a safer access to the lookout, and improve the visitor experience.
Located along the Campaspe River, this landmark is the result of water from the river tumbling down an impressive rock wall. The wide, semi-circular wall was formed by ancient lava flow, creating the basalt cliffs that you can see today. The pool itself is nice and deep, and larger than an Olympic swimming pool.
Drive to the car park, and follow the winding walking track to the new lookout. Go down the steep staircase to the base of the falls, where you can admire the view and hang out by boulders and tree logs.

The best time to visit the falls is during winter and spring, when increased rain produces a more impressive flow, and the falls can even split into two streams. In summer, the falls may slow to a trickle. Aim to arrive between the early morning and mid-afternoon to take advantage of the sunshine.
Swimming is not recommended, due to the cold water, low visibility, strong currents and submerged objects. Cliff diving is strictly prohibited. There’s also no phone reception, so you’ll need to be extra cautious.
Please note that there are no facilities, like toilets, picnic tables or rubbish bins, at Turpins Falls. Do remember to take your rubbish with you.
